But David, she's only 14 years old

Sarah Palin gives David Letterman an almighty whack for “joking” (above) about her daughter getting “knocked up by Alex Rodriguez” during a visit to a baseball game in New York:
Concerning Letterman’s comments about my young daughter (and I doubt he’d ever dare make such comments about anyone else’s daughter):
‘Laughter incited by sexually perverted comments made by a 62-year-old male celebrity aimed at a 14-year-old girl is not only disgusting, but it reminds us some Hollywood/NY entertainers have a long way to go in understanding what the rest of America understands - that acceptance of inappropriate sexual comments about an underage girl, who could be anyone’s daughter, contributes to the atrociously high rate of sexual exploitation of minors by older men who use and abuse others.’
But, but, but, flusters Letterman - the daughter I meant to so crudely mock as a slut or rape-bait was the other one ... you know, the 18 year old.

Who was, in fact, back in Alaska and not with her mum and 14-year-old sister in New York. And who likewise does not deserve this trashing.

Tim Blair has more, and rounds up reaction to Letterman’s disgrace.

I've mentioned this before - just how vicious and downright nasty the progressive Left can be, despite their continual claims to being more compassionate and caring than the evil Right.

They don't like Sarah Palin, which is fine. She's taken on the old-boy network that ran the Republican Party in Alaska and won, so she can look after herself. But so consumed by hatred are they that they consider her children to be fair game too.

If someone on the Right had said the kind of things that have been said about Governor Palin's children about those of Mr Obama, the Left and the media would be melting down in righteous indignation.

Normally you'd expect the cultural Left to be the ones to stand up for young people who have experimented sexually and ended up with the girl pregnant. Religiously conservative people who would dare to criticise such things would be quite properly mocked.

But gee, they sure changed their tune when it came to Mrs Palin's eldest daughter. Just 17 at the time, it didn't stop a comedian describing her as a slut or that creep from Crikey, Guy Rundle, saying that she "had a face that said yes." What a charming guy.

And these people think they represent enlightened opinion?

For me, Letterman is in the same category as Andrew Sullivan: it is impossible for me to ignore them any more thoroughly than I do now.

The wiser option I suspect!
