PETER Costello has finally put an end to speculation about his future, confirming he will not contest the next election. The former Treasurer announced this afternoon he would not renominate for party endorsement in his seat of Higgins. In a written statement on his personal website, Mr Costello said he had reached the decision despite the urgings of local constituents and Australians “from all over the country”. “Nevertheless my view is, as it was in November 2007, that it is time for me to pursue other interests and it is in the long term interest of the Liberal Party for others of ability and integrity to step forward and represent it,” he said. Great, we're left with the wets like Malcolm Turnbull, Christopher Pyne and Greg Hunt. Dear Lord, deliver us. |
