Torzi Matthews Vigna Cantina Sangiovese 2008 #wine

Drank this tonight with friends. Absolutely delicious. But I didn't realise that it was a Torzi Matthews's wine until just now. Their Schist Rock Shiraz is already a favourite of mine.

Torzi Matthews Vigna Cantina Sangiovese 2008

Eden Valley producer Dominic Torzi with Italian heritage has done well here...delicious dark cherry fruit, pot pourri, leather, fresh herbs and spice. Good length, grippy tannins and structure. Recommend decanting this to show its true colours.

"For another side to the big shiraz world that is the Barossa three sub-regional sources - Gomersal, Moppa and Kalimna - go into this small-run, hand made rustic sangio that has all the cherry boxes and lipsmacking tannins and acidity you'd expect from the variety." 92 POINTS Tony Love Adelaide Advertiser Indulge Aug 09

"Deep Red. Sexy aromas of cherry-vanilla, dried flowers, mint and brown spices. Lush, slightly sweet red and dark berry flavors are given grip by a bitter cherry skin quality and framed by velvety tannins. A broad, fleshy, almost liqueur-like style of sangiovese, with strong finishing spiciness and very good persistence" 90 POINTS Josh Raynolds, Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar - Jul/Aug 09

What I would call a juicy red wine. We didn't get to the Durif (Petit Syrah) or Zinfandel (Primitivo), which is a shame.
